Navigating
the QA Register
Permanent
Navigation bar
Once you have logged on to the QA Register you will see a permanent menu bar (navigation bar) across the top of the screen with links to Home, Search, Info, Contact, and Help. These will remain visible wherever you
go within the Register, but will not be present when you are navigating the free information pages of the TSO Quality site.
Home page
The Home page link will take you back to the home page of the TSO Quality
site.
Contact
This page provides useful contact information, including addresses, telephone
numbers, and websites.
Info
Following this link will take you to a page where you can read information
about the QA Register, and select from further menus to view information
about the Standards and Assessment Bodies.
Search
Quick Search
The Quick search, presented at the bottom left of the Search screen enables
you to carry out a General keyword search (search for any word across
the whole of the data), or a Company name search (a keyword search, restricted
to the Company Name field).
Advanced
Search
An Advanced Search form has been prepared to help you construct complex searches for more precise record searching. The sections on the form are grouped to help you. You can search according to company name and/or address information, certification standard, certificate number or using keyword/s (for example relating to specific products or services). These searches can be used together, for example, you could search for all companies within your county ("Area" within the address fields) using a keyword to narrow the search to a particular product or service area.
Boolean
Operators
You will notice that by the side of each text entry box on the search
form there is another box containing the word "AND", with a down-arrow.
Click on the down arrow, and you will see "OR" and "NOT". These are called
Boolean operators, and change the relationships between of each of the
search fields. By default they are all set to "AND", so that every search
term you enter is included with every other; they are "AND-ed" together.
For example, search for a company name AND a town so that you only retrieve
records with both that company name and town. You can change the Boolean
operator to OR or NOT. For example, you might wish to search for Town/City
= Newcastle, and NOT Area= Staffordshire (the boolean choice to the right
of the Area text box), so that you retrieve records for Newcastle-Upon-Tyne,
but not Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
Browse
lists
In the case of certification standard, a browse list is available to help you with your selection. Browse lists are lists of information drawn from the data, to provide you with an accurate picture of actual data. This helps you construct searches that will provide more accurate results.
Search Results
The search results will be presented in the left-hand frame. Click on any of the Company names in this list of results to link to the company's full record. The QA Register database currently contains over 100,000 records. Many general searches would initiate a retrieval of thousands of records in the results list. Over the web, this would seriously impair the speed for delivery. In order to produce results quickly, we have limited the return of results to the top 1,000. If your search is of this nature, along with the top 1,000 records, you will also see an invitation to refine your search. When you click to open a full record, this will be displayed in the main content frame (in place of the Advanced Search form). If you wish to know which certification body has awarded a particular certificate, click on the button next to the certificate number.
Use Of Single Numbers and Letters In Search Criteria
The inclusion of single digit numbers or single letters as part of search criteria will produce an error message. Please search instead using words of two or more characters. Searches for organisation names comprising only single initial letters will return results if the letters are entered without spaces (for example, search for "TSO" rather than "T S O").
Printing
To print off information from this site you will need to be sure that
you activate the part of the screen that you wish to print. That is, if
you have conducted a search and are viewing a company record, click in
the main content area where the company record is displayed before clicking
the Print button on the Browser's toolbar.
