Certification Bodies Information and Standards Information

What is ISO 9000?

ISO 9001 is the standard that has been designed to assist organisations of all types and sizes to implement and operate effective quality management systems. It applies not to products and services as such, but to the processes that create them. It emphasises principles, goals and objectives that all focus upon one main aim - the same aim which drives every business - meeting customer requirements and expectations.

It has been the leading quality management standard for many years and it is still evolving. However, this is a good time for an organisation to implement the standard because the 2000 version included a number of significant improvements. Organisations are now enjoying the benefits and can look forward to many years of stability.

Standards, included in the QA Register

The QA Register aims to list all organisations with accredited management system certification awarded by bodies accredited by UKAS,

The QA Register lists accredited certifications to the following standards (or combinations thereof):

BS EN ISO 9001:2000 (Quality management system certification)

BS EN ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental management system certification)

BS 7799:Part 2:2005 (ISO 27001:2005) (Information security management system certification)

BS EN ISO 13485:2003 (Quality management system certification in the field of medical devices)

BS 15000-1 (ISO/IEC 20000-1) (IT service management system certification)

Note:
Where the certification standard is listed above as "BS EN ISO", the certificate issued by the certification body may be worded explicitly as the individual BS, EN or ISO standard, or as a combination of BS, EN and ISO.

Where a certification body is accredited by UKAS to certify specific additional management system sector schemes, these may be listed in the QA Register in combination with the appropriate standard above (for example: BS EN ISO 9001:2000 + TickIT). Only those schemes that are specifically mentioned in the scope of accreditation of the particular certification body may be listed as additions to the standards as this means that UKAS has specifically assessed the certification body as competent to issue combined certificates in these fields. Certificates may not be issued for a sector scheme on its own.
